Our National Background: UNA at UCLA is the official campus chapter of the United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA). The UNA is responsible for the United Nations' American presence, which includes funding, advocacy of international events, and partnering with governmental organizations to facilitate UN processes. Over 22 percent of the UN budget comes from the United States ALONE- and that's out of 193 countries! As representatives of the United Nations, we have the responsibility to inform the general public, specifically the UCLA student body, about the UN and its work in the United States and the world. Our chapter in particular has a unique reputation because our president, Hamza Haider, represents UNA Youth all along the Western Region!
Here at UNA-USA, our goals rest on four principles: Advocacy, Connection, Leadership & Career Development
Advocacy: Following the structure of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we develop and implement awareness events on campus + community service in Los Angeles in accordance with our values.
Connection: Unlike previous years, UNA at UCLA has made the decision to open membership to all UCLA students, regardless of grade level, major, background, etc. We seek students actively involved in their community, that can help expand UNA at UCLA into a web of connectivity between various organizations.
Leadership Development: UNA at UCLA offers various leadership opportunities for entering members. Our selective committees pick applicants that are committed and motivated to expand UNA at UCLA’s cross-campus reach, and consult members through the strategization and organization of tasks.
Career Development: Through membership to UNA at UCLA, students have the opportunity to explore a future career in international relations, economics, global development, etc. Our alumni and connections boast experience in the United Nations’ subsidiaries and are motivated to impart guidance to new members.
